Introduction

The CCS choir gives the opportunity for amateur singers from all parts of Cambridgeshire to take part in the performance of major choral works under a professional conductor with professional soloists and a full orchestra.

It has been in existence since the late 1950s and many of today's most famous conductors and musicians have been part of its exciting history.

Each year the Society's choir performs a major choral work between February and April usually at Ely Cathedral or West Road Concert Hall or other local venues. A second summer concert is also usually undertaken in June. In preparation for these major performances choir rehearsals are held weekly in various local centres in the county as well as at combined rehearsals in Cambridge about once a month.

Regular members who attend the local and joint rehearsals do not need to audition to join the society although it is expected that potential members are both able to sing and read music. Associate members, who attend the joint rehearsals only, are auditioned.

As well as the rehearsals, members enjoy a number of social occasions through the year such as coffee mornings, madrigal singing and Christmas socials. Some of these events are organised by the individual choirs and some are open to all members.

The age of members spans most generations. Young people, tenors and basses in particular are welcomed.
